Let America Vote Inducts Karamo, DePerno, and Dixon Into 2022 Voter Suppression Hall of Shame

Nov 03, 2022

Let America Vote announced the 2022 inductees into its Voter Suppression Hall of Shame, an ongoing list dishonoring the biggest anti-democracy and anti-voting rights politicians. The 2022 inductees are extremist candidates who deny the results of the 2020 election, are threatening to deny the results of the 2022 election, and want to be in a position to overturn the will of the people in the 2024 election. In Michigan, Kristina Karamo, Matt DePerno, and Tudor Dixon were all inducted to the Voter Suppression Hall of Shame this cycle.

“These dangerous candidates pose an extremist threat to Michigan’s democracy. They’ve proven they refuse to listen to the will of Michiganders and want to sabotage future elections to benefit themselves and their political allies,” said LAV President Tiffany Muller. “We’re inducting them into our Voter Suppression Hall of Shame for their election denial and extremist policies that will silence the voice of Michigan families and restrict the freedom to vote.”

Kristina Karamo lied that “Trump won Michigan” in 2020, called members of both parties who stood up for democracy in 2020 “traitors,” and filed a suit in 2022 to overturn voting rights for Detroit alone.

Matt DePerno is under criminal investigation for allegations that he illegally obtained voting machines while he pushed the Big Lie that Trump won Michigan, and went to DC on January 6th to meet with Trump officials to try to overturn the election.

Tudor Dixon baselessly promoted lies about voter fraud and has refused to accept the results of 2022.

If elected…

Karamo could:

  • Abuse the powers of the office to investigate political opponents for unfounded election law violations.

  • Manipulate the certification process and undermine Michigan’s free and fair elections.

  • Create barriers to the ballot box to make it harder for Michiganders to exercise their freedom to vote.

DePerno could:

  • Have the state of Michigan support restrictive voting laws and challenges to election results and certification.

  • Use his authority to investigate false violations of election law and use it to target his political opponents and threaten Michigan’s elections.

Dixon could:

  • Appoint members who share her radical beliefs to the Michigan Board of State Canvassers—which certifies the election results—and create an extremist Board.

  • Stack the court with extremist justices.

  • Sign bills passed by the legislature to restrict ballot access or subvert the election.
