Chief of Staff

End Citizens United/Let America Vote’s Mission: To fix our democracy by getting big money out of politics and protecting the right to vote. We will work to end our rigged political system by electing reform champions, passing meaningful legislative reforms, and elevating these issues in the national conversation. We will work in partnership with these champions to overturn Citizens United, end the unlimited and undisclosed money in politics, and protect and expand the right to vote.

Reports To: President & Executive Director

Job Summary: Reporting directly to the President, the Chief of Staff is a highly influential and senior-level role that will help the organization on a tactical and strategic level to enhance the effectiveness of the organization. In this role, they will ensure that the President and leadership team are designing and delivering on the highest value strategic objectives of the organization. The Chief of Staff is tasked with trouble shooting and handling both the daily and long term needs of the organization, acting as a facilitator for the President, and working across departments to move key strategic projects and needs forward. The COS will join a collaborative work environment and will be a member of ECU/LAV’s leadership team to handle strategic planning, operational projects, Board management, managing competing priorities, and building relationships both internally and externally with key allies and stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of the leadership team, making organizational decisions, alongside the President and other members of the leadership team.
  • Oversee projects for the President and lead projects between departments, ensuring timely and effective completion.
  • Help the President and their leadership team see and understand the connection between competing interests as well as prevailing trends that emerge, which could instigate a change in strategic direction.
  • Serve as a strategic adviser to the President on issues such as institutional priorities, leadership decisions, external affairs, and more.
  • Identify and take on strategic projects.
  • Ensure decision making and strategic initiatives are aligned with the organization’s mission and values.
  • Manage the board and other critical relationships on behalf of the President.
  • Assist in the budget planning and yearly reports to ensure feedback and buy-in from other members of the leadership team and collaborate with the COO and President.
  • Assess requests directed to the President and determine priority and course of action.
  • Plan and lead staff retreats, meetings, and other special events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications: The Chief of Staff must be a self-starter with strong problem-solving and relationship-building skills and at least 7 years in a senior role. They should have proven experience organizing and directing multiple teams and departments. The Chief of Staff should have a strong interest in stopping big money in politics, protecting voting rights, helping elect democracy reform champions to Congress, possess excellent communications skills, good attention to detail, the ability to think on one’s feet. The Chief of Staff must be willing to travel as needed and be committed to the diversity of our candidates, membership, partners, and staff.

Deputy Director of State and Local Campaigns

End Citizens United/Let America Vote’s Mission: To fix our democracy by getting big money out of politics and protecting the right to vote. We will work in partnership with these champions to overturn Citizens United, end the unlimited and undisclosed money in politics, and protect and expand the right to vote.

Reports To: Director of State and Local Campaigns

Job Summary: The Deputy Director of State and Local Campaigns will play an integral role in expanding the capacity of ECU // LAV’s state and local project, Fight For Reform. This individual will join a collaborative work environment and partner with ECU // LAV’s Director of State and Local Campaigns to monitor key races, build and maintain relationships to help endorsed campaigns win, and use their understanding of ECU // LAV’s resources to build political capital for reform efforts including getting big money out of politics and protecting voting rights.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Director of State and Local Campaigns to oversee and maintain ECU // LAV’s relationships with candidates and campaigns.
  • Interviewing candidates for legislative and statewide office; making recommendations on endorsements.
  • Participating in meetings with partner organizations at the state and national level.
  • Collaborating with other departments to offer candidate services that improve and strengthen endorsed candidates’ campaigns.
  • Conducting political background research on candidates, districts, states, and organizations.
  • Monitoring key legislation in state legislatures on the topics of campaign finance, voting rights, and corruption.
  • Accurately tracking and recording key political information including but not limited to campaign points of contact, district information, fundraising totals, etc.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications: We’re seeking applicants who excel in relationship-building, have strong project management skills, and are comfortable around candidates and elected officials. You should have:

  • 3-5 years of work experience with increasing levels of responsibility in non-profit, campaign, activism, governmental, or consulting work.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with organizations and/or individual partners that serve to meet both entities’ goals and objectives.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a knack for problem solving.
  • Experience working with state governmental offices and/or an understanding of legislative structures and campaigns.
  • An understanding of how race, class, and other identities intersect with our work in advocacy and electoral campaigns.
  • The ability to work independently.
  • Tools to build consensus with internal team members and external partners.
  • A commitment to getting Big Money out of politics, expanding voting rights, and fighting corruption in state and local politics.
